This is the 1993 Bugatti EB110 SS/GT right-hand drive (RHD) prototype, chassis 055, the only one of its kind in the world. Bugatti’s R&D team created this car to test the logistics of producing an EB110 in RHD configuration. It was equipped with a prototype Supersport engine and features not found on standard models. Early discussions between Italian industrialist Ferruccio Lamborghini, French financial director Jean-Marc Borel, designer Paolo Stanzani, and entrepreneur Romano Artioli sparked the idea of a new Bugatti supercar in the late ’80s. Chassis development was handled by Tecnostile, with designers like Paolo Martin, Giorgetto Giugiaro, Nuccio Bertone, and Marcello Gandini submitting proposals for what would become the ‘EB110.’ In 1990, Stanzani was replaced by Nicola Materazzi as Chief Engineer. The EB110 GT was completed in 1991, 110 years after Ettore Bugatti’s birth. This car, born a GT with an SS engine, was partially cosmetically converted to an SS before its debut at the 1994 British Motor Show. On October 18, attendees saw the only RHD EB110, featuring a GT front bumper (without brake cooling vents), electric windows, Supersport Recaro bucket seats, and a GT glovebox—a mix of the EB110 SS and GT. Finished in ‘Grigio Chiaro,’ it still retains that finish today, though its blue interior has been redone in a lighter shade. After its Motor Show debut, chassis 055 returned to the factory for further testing and received additional modifications. Bugatti Automobili S.p.A., led by Artioli, went bankrupt in 1995, ending plans for a RHD EB110. During the company’s foreclosure auction, 055 was bought by B-Engineering, formed by ex-Bugatti staff and Vice-Chairman Jean-Marc Borel. After restoration, the car changed hands again and was sent to Dauer for more modifications, including a new ‘Bugatti Blu’ interior, rear wing, rear-view camera, Remus exhaust, and other upgrades.
How many made? Only 1 EB110 was built in RHD configuration.
