This is the 2015 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse ‘KAQ’ (795100), a wonderful example that is finished in a combination of polished aluminum/black carbon fiber over a Carmine Red leather interior. The Veyron model as a whole was designed by Slovak automobile designer, Jozef Kabaň and its earliest origins trace back to the year 1998. From 1998 to 1999, design and engineering company Italdesign Giugiaro S.p.A. constructed a series of machines, each featuring a Volkswagen-designed W18 engine and permanent four-wheel drive. This included the 2-door EB 118 shown at the 1998 Paris Motor Show, the four-door EB218 at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show, the 18/3 Chiron at the 1999 Frankfurt International Motor Show, and finally, the the EB 18/4 Veyron, designed in-house by Hartmut Warkuß and shown at the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show. In 2000, the world got its first glimpse at the Veyron 16/4 at Detroit and Geneva, now featuring four-bank W16 engine architecture. The first Veyron prototype arrived in 2003, and production officially began in 2005. The Veyron EB 16.4 is named after racing driver, Bugatti development engineer, and 24 Hours of Le Mans winner, Pierre Veyron, while the ‘EB’ refers to the companies founder, Ettore Bugatti. The Grand Sport Vitesse model first arrived in 2012 as a targa top variant of the Veyron Super Sport. This example, chassis 795100 was originally ordered directly from Bugatti in Molsheim in the year 2014, and head of design, Achim Anscheidt alongside color and trim designer Laurent Chevalley worked to bring this clients vision to life. Due to the customers very specific requests, an unprecedented CAD program had to be implemented by Bugatti engineers in order to mill all the aluminum parts from a single block. As a result, the car was then custom milled out of 20 tons of aluminum with each panel being single piece.
