This unique 2015 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse Transformers Edition (795079) pays homage to the legendary Transformers franchise by Hasbro and Takara Tomy. The car is finished in Bugatti Blue with dark blue carbon fiber and a light and dark blue leather interior, featuring sport comfort seats and light blue stitching. A prominent Transformers logo is placed between the seats. This one-off example has primarily been in the U.S., first appearing in Los Gatos, California in July 2015. The Veyron was designed by Slovakian Jozef Kabaň, with its origins dating back to 1998. Between 1998 and 1999, Italdesign Giugiaro S.p.A. built prototypes featuring a Volkswagen W18 engine and all-wheel drive. These included the 1998 Paris-debuted EB 118, the 1999 Geneva-shown EB 218, and the 18/3 Chiron displayed at Frankfurt in 1999, which visually resembled the Veyron. A final in-house concept, the EB 18/4 Veyron, was showcased in Tokyo in 1999. In 2000, the Veyron 16/4 was revealed at Detroit and Geneva, now with the W16 engine. Production began in 2005 following the first prototype in 2003. The Veyron EB 16.4 is named after racing driver and engineer Pierre Veyron, with ‘EB’ honoring founder Ettore Bugatti. The ‘16.4’ represents the engine’s 16 cylinders and four turbos. The Grand Sport Vitesse, introduced in 2012 as a targa version of the Veyron Super Sport, became the world’s fastest open-top sports car when driver Anthony Liu hit 254 mph at Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessien test track.
