This incredible car shown here is the the 2017 DeTomaso P72 Prototipo di Omologazione ‘Prototype Isabelle’ (W09AR217XHTA71002), a special model which is ultimately a homage to the De Tomaso P70 Prototype racer (also called the Sport 5000 Fantuzzi Spyder). This example was built for homologation purposes and was seen on display during the 2021 @dreamridexp event. Unlike prototype 001 which uses a V12 engine, this example instead makes use of a 5.0L V8 that the other P72s will be equipped with as well. This example is currently finished in a fantastic white paint finish with red and blue stripes with a brilliant black interior. The P72 model was designed by Jowyn Wong of Wyn Design and combines a number of modern elements with reminiscent classic shapes. The interior features diamond stitched leather and opulent instrumentation with many of the elements polished in copper. In October 2019, De Tomaso revealed that the P72 will be powered by the 5.0 litre supercharged Ford Coyote V8 engine with an undisclosed amount of power. Today, German sports car manufacturer and company behind the Apollo IE, Apollo Automobil (previously known as Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur), is now the sister company to the De Tomaso Marque. In April of 2015, Hong-Kong based Consolidated Ideal Team Ventures acquired the De Tomaso company and in January of 2016 they also purchased Apollo. The company was subsequently renamed to become Apollo Automobil GmbH. In January of 2022, De Tomaso partnered with an industry heavyweight, Capricorn Group, and together, the companies are reportedly putting together a production facility adjacent to the Nürburgring. This particular homologation prototype is nicknamed ‘Isabelle’ after Elizabeth “Isabelle” Haskell de Tomaso, a highly successful race car driver during the 1950s.
