This is the 1993 Dodge Viper RT/10 Defender, a unique Viper-based prop stunt car which was constructed and designed by Chrysler corporation engineers for the 1990’s TV series ‘V.I.P.E.R’, an American action-adventure series about a special task force created by the US government to fight crime in a fictional city based in California. The RT/10 Defender was used in the series as an urban assault vehicle, where it was called ‘The Defender’. The Defender was built using a stretched 1993 RT/10 chassis as the basis for the project. I’m the show, the car had the ability to transform/morph and also demonstrated a number of unique features throughout the series such as a hologram projector, armor plating, a voice amplifier, missle launchers, flamethrowers, and a wide variety of other wild elements that performed all different tasks. The car’s styling can be credited to Chrysler stylist, Steve Ferrerio, and Unique Movie Cars Inc. of Las Vegas, Nevada was the company responsible for putting the stunt cars together for the series. A total of 2 examples were actually manufactured by Chrysler themselves & MSX/Auto North. Out of the 14 total cars produced for the TV series, only one of them remains in tact to this day, leaving this hand-built RT/10 Defender Stunt car to be one-of-a-kind in existence. In 2010, this car was auctioned off by Mecum Auctions, however, the car did not meet it’s reserve price of $300,000. Three years later, the car was found on EBay, where the car did not sell again due to not meeting the reserve price. Most recently, this one-off was sold on @bringatrailer for $141,777 where it was listed with no reserve! Other features found on the Defender include four-wheel independent suspension, three-spoke 17" wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, power-assisted rack & pinion steering, and so much more!
How many made? 14 produced for the series, 1 left remaining to this day.
