This is the 2008 FEI (Fundação Educacional Inaciana) X-20, and it’s truly an absolutely wild machine. This unique and rare automobile was first ever shown during the 25th São Paulo Motor Show after it was constructed by a group of university students, teachers, and researches from the Centro Universitário da FEI, which is a higher education facility in São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil. This is the 2008 FEI X-20, notably, the first ever Brazilian roadster to be capable of autonomous driving. The car was first ever shown in October of 2008, and it was truly a bold design, combined with a number of unique innovative elements that just simply aren’t seen on any other car. The bodywork for this car, which is rather unprecedented, was created entirely by computer design, which then completely eliminated the need for prototype modeling at the time. The chassis of this vehicle is constructed out of aluminum, while the body is glass fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) using molds made of polyurethane and machined in modern CNC machines. The coordination for the entire project was carried out by Professor Ricardo Bock. FEI was founded in 1946 as FEI (Faculdade de Engenharia Industrial), and the first experimental vehicle was shown in 1968, which was then known as the X-1. From there, the team of engineers and designers would go on to make many more projects, with this car shown here being the 20th. The X-20 utilizes a six-speed Porsche transmission, and a 550hp V8 engine borrowed from a Chevrolet Corvette. It’s believed that this car was originally painted in silver and sometime around 2010/2011 the color was changed to white.
