The Bruneian royal family (BRF) is quite well-known for their vast collection of thousands of rare, interesting, and unique automobiles that they have collected over the years. In a number of cases, one and few-off cars were uniquely commissioned specifically at the request of the BRF, and this car shown here is one of those cars. This is the 1996 Ferrari FX (4/6 101368) painted in deep sapphire blue, also the only blue FX model in the world. The FX model was a requested project by Prince Abdul Hakeem. Hakeem gave the project to the design house of Carozzeria Pininfarina, who designed many one-off & few-off projects for the royal family throughout the years. There was one main request, a semi-automatic transmission. Pininfarina’s prototype manager, @paolo.garella, who was skilled enough to bring this idea to life, and was one of the key people responsible for this project as a whole. The initial platform for this project was the Ferrari Testarossa, so adding a semi-automatic transmission quickly became one of the more significant obstacles. To overcome this, Garella enlisted the help of British company ‘Prodrive’, and after a long period of meticulous work, eventually the team was able to create a functional/suitable transmission. A carbon fiber body was created industrially, and ultimately was a fascinating design which included newly added dual intakes, a smoother roofline, quad-round taillights, and much more. Three FXs were built on the Testarossa platform, but after Prince Hakeem received his original three cars, he requested three more. This time, the three newly built FX’s would be based on the platform of the 512M. These three new cars would be sent to England-based Williams F1, a successful F1 team, in order to better refine the transmission. Of the three new FX cars, only one of them was actually sent to Williams F1, this car. The only FX to ever leave Brunei, now belongs to the @marconimuseum.
