This is the 1993 Honda NSX-R, one of only 438 produced in the entire world. Finished in ‘Formula Red’ with Red Alcantara Recaro bucket seats (first gen-1990-2005). Let’s clear up some confusion first between the Honda NSX & the Acura NSX. If you didn’t know Acura is the luxury vehicle division of Honda. Acura was officially launched for the US market and Canada on March 27th of 1986. Therefore the Honda NSX and the Acura NSX are essentially the same exact car (minus some regulation changes). The NSX is marketed in North America & Canada as the Acura NSX & in Japan and other parts of the world as the Honda NSX. The origins of the NSX begin in 1984 with the HP-X (Honda Performance Experimental) concept. Honda chief designer, Masahito Nakano, and chief engineer, Shigeru Uehara intended to develop a car that could compete with Ferrari’s and other high end sports cars, while also being both reliable and affordable. The concept later evolved into what we know now as the NSX (New Sportscar Experimental), and was first shown at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show. However, this NXS-R is vastly different from the standard NSX model. The NSX always had a comfortable balance between raw performance, and daily drive-ability, so for customers seeking a non-compromised, raw racing experience, Honda produced this car: the NSX-R. Focused heavily on weight reduction, Honda engineers removed 265lbs from the standard NSX for the NSX-R resulting in a 2,712lb total weight. The power leather seats were swapped for carbon-Kevlar racing seats, and multiple unnecessary parts (sound system, A/C) were removed for peak performance. The NSX-R’s gear ratios were changed resulting in faster acceleration than the standard NSX, but a slower overall top speed. Production of the NSX-R began in 1992 and ended in 1995 with all 483 cars produced reserved for the Japanese market. Thank you @autosportdesigns for the opportunity to witness and check out this extremely rare machine!
