In 1987, a company named Isdera AG developed a car known as the Commendatore 112i. This special car was completed in 1993 after six years with elements such as a periscope mirror, gull-wing doors, originally, a 6.0 L Mercedes-Benz M120 V12, and later a 6.9 L unit after becoming the “Silver Arrow” in 1999 (Mercedes badging, traditional mirrors, new wheels etc.). The car was brought back to it’s original specification in 2017 and was sold by @rmsothebys in 2021. This car shown here is a 1987/2018 Isdera Commendatore 112i, but unlike the car that was displayed at the Frankfurt Motor show in 1993, this one was completed 25 years after. During the production of the original 112i, Isdera used a spare tubular frame from an Imperator 108i (J02015) to begin construction of a second 112i in 1995. The project was eventually laid to rest, and the frame was instead hung in the Isdera headquarters as a piece of decoration. That was until an ex-McLaren engineer and Isdera connoisseur inquired to complete a second 112i using said frame. The project was originally given the green light in 2012 by Isdera’s founder Eberhard Schulz, and with his initial support, using the original body molds from the first car, a second example was built over six years exclusively in the new owner’s garage. The car was around 98% completed when Schulz withdrew his support of the project due to some conflict over proposed design alterations. Despite the lack of approval to complete the project, this example (ES-UK 112 H) is still quite an impressive piece of automotive engineering, boasting almost all of the impressive features as the original. For this example, the dashboard and interior have been mostly re-designed, and the exhausts have been side-mounted. The large side air-intake design has also been modified. This example is finished in a color known as “Light Ivory”, the same color seen on many German taxis.
