This rarely spoken about concept car was built based upon the Lancia Stratos, which is a sports car and also a rally car made by Italian car manufacturer, Lancia. This is the other-worldly 1978 Lancia Sibilo Concept, which was styled by the highly-regarded Italian automobile designer, Marcello Gandini for Carrozzeria Bertone. The first thing you notice is clearly the cars unprecedented bodywork, which consists of sharp aerodynamic lines, polycarbonate windows, and other desirable features such as retractable headlights that combine together to make the hand beaten steel body of the Sibilo truly unlike anything ever seen before. As you could only imagine, this concept car was fitted with a number of options that you would simply never expect to see on any automobile ever, such as an anatomically designed steering wheel designed to fit the natural grip of the hand, and Digital instrumentation. The Gandini-designed Sibilo went on to inspire the styling of the vehicles that were used in the 1990 science-fiction movie, ‘Total Recall’ by Paul Verhoeven featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The rear semi-monococque was entirely removable, and overall, it’s quite evident that nothing else has ever quite looked anything similar to the Sibilo ever since it’s introduction into the automotive industry in 1978 at the Turin Motor Show. It’s not clear as to whether or not this concept was ever to be considered for production, however, it’s now known that only one of these cars were built, making it a true one-off rarity to behold. Chassis S 12201 (shown here) is certainly something different, but what do you think about this futuristic concept from the 1970’s?
