This very rare, one-of-a-kind project shown here captured by @autofdate is known as the 1988 Lancia HIT by Pininfarina, a concept car that was built with the intention of focusing on researching and testing new technologies and materials that would potentially be used in future automobiles. The Lancia HIT (high Italian technology) is a 2+2 coupe with a body designed by Italian design and coach building firm, Pininfarina in collaboration with Italian car manufacturer and a subsidiary of FCA Italy S.p.A., Lancia. The HIT was built based upon the mechanical underpinnings of the Delta HF Intergrale, and after a proposal given by Italian designer, Pietro Camardella, a body design created by Pininfarina designer, Diego Ottina was later approved and implemented. The HIT was designed to be highly advanced, and made use of a carbon fiber frame as well as glued carbon fiber and kevlar panels, resulting in a total weight of just around 2,134lbs, approximately 440 pounds lighter than it’s donor car, the Delta HF Intergrale. The slippery-looking, aerodynamically designed HIT was first revealed to a public crowd in April of 1988 during the Turin Motor Show, and from there, it was subsequently shown at other various events, and was used in a number of ads and magazines, resulting in the HIT becoming a concept car many have at least some memories of from the 80’s. The HIT concept car was powered by a 1,995cc DOHC turbocharged Lancia Delta Integrale 4-cylinder engine that produces just about 185hp, and for a touch of elegance, the HIT was equipped with 8-spoke alloy wheels. Truly one of the more advanced concept cars of the time, and one that went on to be loved by many automotive enthusiasts around the world!
