Perhaps one of the most obscure looking vehicles to ever make an appearance here on @rarecarsonly, this is the highly-interesting one of one 2003 Sabberton Omen (AUO3HZT). This unique car was built completely from scratch by a man named Alan Sabberton of Sabena Marine LTD, United Kingdom-based company with a focus on Boat Repairs & Boat Maintenance. Alan Sabberton, who has a background as a boat builder and engineer, was able to transfer his skills to the automotive world with the Sabberton Omen project. The spaceframe chassis was hand-built by Mr. Sabberton (75mm by 50mm tubes) and the suspension system was borrowed from a Jaguar XJ6. After the frame was completed, a body was formed using fiberglass, and before including lines & openings for the doors, bonnet, and wheels, first a one-piece shaped was formed. Inspiration for this vehicle was said to be taken from the Group C Mercedes-Benz racing cars, but clearly with a unique sci-fi twist. Although there car reportedly measures around 18-feet, there is only seating for two passengers. The glasshouse of the car is made up of a Citroën AX windscreen, side windows from a Jaguar saloon, and a bespoke polycarbonate rear window constructed using boat materials. One of the most unusual design elements of this car are the fully-enclosed wheels, which dictates the cars width due to the fact that the wheels need to turn within the car’s bodywork. Maybe the only ‘normal’ feature on this car are the doors, which are surprisingly hinged conventionally. On the inside of this UFO/Boat looking vehicle, you’ll find an instrument cluster taken directly from a Ford Orion, and a whole lot of wood & leather. The current location of this vehicle is unknown.
