This is the 2002 Spyker C8 Double 12S (chassis 008). This unbelievably rare machine is owned by our friends at @lmm23design, and is said to have been kept in the personal possession of Spyker Cars founder, Victor Muller. Notably, this example is the only ‘homologation’ model which is powered by a 4.0 liter BMW V8-race engine. The Dutch automaker, Spyker Cars re-emerged in the year 1999 after being founded by Dutch engineer, Maarten de Bruijn and Dutch businessman, Victor Muller. Since then, the focus has been put on producing unique and exclusive sports car such as the C8 Spyder and the C8 Laviolette. In order to commemorate the opening of a new factory, on March 21st of 2002, Spyker Cars revealed an all new model known as the Double 12S, which would go on to serve as a road-legal version of the company’s Double 12R race car. The name of the car itself,is an homage to the 24-hour world speed record set by racing driver, Selwyn Edge while driving a Spyker C4. Only 16 total Double 12S examples were built, and 15 of those cars were powered by a modified version of the Double 12R’s 4.0L Audi V8, which was offered in 5 different stages of tune(400bhp-620bhp). This car, was powered by something entirely different, a 4.0-liter BMW Motorsport V8 good for 450 horsepower. Swiss engineer, Henri Mader helped to maximize the performance of the engine. A total of 25 examples were needed to be produced in order to homologate the 12R, however, this never materialized, and the 12R was later replaced with the Spyker C8 Spyder GT2R. Since factory one-off isn’t an official homologation vehicle, there are many luxury features that you’d find on a standard Spyker such as beautiful leather upholstery and aluminum finish found in the cockpit. Current day, @spykerenthusiast manages all Spyker car sales and handles all of the parts available for the world, and in doing so, completed a major restoration on this car recently!
