This is the highly-peculiar 1985 Zender Vision 2. The story with this car begins in 1969, when a man named Hans-Albert Zender founded a sole proprietorship under the name of ‘HAZ’ when he was only 23 years old. He began his early career customizing car interiors in a small garage located in Bassenheim, Germany. In 1974, the name ‘Zender’ now replaced the companies original name. Eventually, Mr. Zender could no longer meet the demand for his products, causing him to expand even further, resulting in the production of rear wings, fenders, and other various automotive parts. Quickly, Ford became a customer, and even a contract with Volkswagen followed behind them in 1975. By 1977, Zender’s products would cover more than 40 countries worldwide, and finally, after a period of successful work in the automotive industry, it was time for Mr. Zender to create his own vision of a dream car. In 1979 the company moved facilities to Mülheim-Kärlich, Germany. The following year, in 1980, the company would officially branch out into the dealership industry, and in 1983, Zender Exklusiv-Auto was officially founded with the main focus now being production of unique automobiles. Around this time, Zender presented their first ever design study, the futuristic-looking Vision 1S. In total, six full-sized ‘Vision’ concept cars were created, with this car, the Vision 2 being the third car ever created in the lineup (1, 1S, 2, 3, 3C). The Vision 2 was created under the idea that ‘everything is allowed’, and because of this, it’s one of the more outgoing and outlandish designs in the lineup. The result of the Vision 2 was a stylish body design, which was penned by a designer named Günter Zillner, who is also responsible for the design of every vision concept. On the Vision 2, a spectacular wing was implemented which might have inspired later on more popular models like the Honda NSX that appeared in 1989. Unfortunately it’s believed that this car was simply a design study, with no actual functional powertrain whatsoever.
